This page explains what Work When Free collects, why we collect it, and what other people can see. We keep the amount of personal data to what the service actually needs to run.
What you give us
- Account details: your email address, and the name, phone number, country and map location you enter in your profile. A profile must be complete before a job can be posted.
- Listings: the title, description, hours, amount, map location and expiry date of any job you post.
- Messages to us: feedback you submit through the form on these pages, and reports you file against a listing.
What is recorded automatically
- Your IP address, browser user agent, the pages you open, and the time of the request. This is kept in our server logs and in a simple internal counter used to see how the site is being used.
- Whether a visit came from a person or an automated crawler, based on the browser user agent.
What other users can see
- Your job title, description, hours and amount are public on the listings page. Write them with that in mind.
- The map location you set for a job is used so nearby people can find it in a radius search.
- Your phone number is shown only to a logged-in user who opens the contact button on your listing. It is not printed in the public page source and is not included in the public listings feed.
- Your email address and password are never shown to other users.
Cookies and analytics
- A login cookie keeps you signed in so you do not have to enter your password on every visit. It lasts about a month of inactivity and is refreshed each time you return. Logging out, or clearing your browser data, removes it immediately.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and understand which pages are used. Google sets its own cookies and receives your IP address and browser details. You can block these with your browser settings or an extension without breaking the site.
- Fonts and icons load from Google Fonts and a public CDN, so those providers see your IP address when a page loads.
Login codes and email
When you sign in with a code, we send a one-time code to your email address and store it briefly until it is used or expires. We only accept Gmail addresses at present.
Advertisements
The ad slots are served from our own server, not an ad network, so there is no third-party ad tracking on the listings. If you click an ad, you are taken to the advertiser's own website and the link carries a campaign tag so they can see the visit came from us. What happens on their site is covered by their privacy policy, not ours.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not share your details with other companies for their own marketing.
- We do not use your phone number to call or message you for promotion.
Security
- The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your device and the server is encrypted.
- Your password is stored only as a salted one-way hash. We cannot read it, and we can never tell you what it is. If you forget it, sign in with an email code instead.
- Access to the server and database is restricted, and our application logs redact passwords, codes, and contact details.
No website can promise perfect security, so please do not put anything in a listing that you would not want a stranger to read, and use a password here that you do not use anywhere else.
Your choices
- You can update your name, phone number and location from your profile at any time.
- You can expire your own listings early from Jobs Posted by Me.
- You can ask us to delete your account and profile data by emailing us from the address on the account.
Retention
Profiles and listings stay until you remove them or ask us to. Server logs and usage counters are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then overwritten as the files roll over.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the updated version will appear on this page.
